This charming hotel, with its colorful floors, its marvelous design and the friendliest staff I have ever met, is a new addition to the world of luxury hotels in the city of Kochi in India. Even though it has opened its doors to the public recently, it has all the necessary ingredients that are going to make it climb to the top in a very short time.
Who could imagine that I would spend my last two nights in Kerala at one of the most stylish hotels not only of Kochi, but of the whole state? Come with me to take a more detailed look at the astonishing hotel Fragrant Nature Kochi of the Aroma Group of Companies.
If you have just arrived in town and you are currently at the airport, then you can try your luck with an UBER, which is the most affordable means of transport in India, or you can hail a taxi. You can also ask the hotel to arrange your transportation to and from the airport, thus getting a better price. Personally, on the last day, I asked the reception to call a taxi to take me to the airport, which is about one and a half hours away, and I paid less money, approximately 2000 rupees (about 27 euro). The UBER would have charged me half this amount, but I wasn’t willing to take the risk, as I didn’t know if it would come on time due to the heavy traffic.
Fragrant Nature Kochi is situated in the best part of town, very close to all the prominent sights and next to the touristic part of Kochi. The Bazaar street, where the beautiful building with the yellow-white clock tower stands tall, a landmark in this area, is full of small shops, which sell local products and souvenirs. You can admire the sunset from the beach of Kochi, gazing at the famous Chinese fishnets, world-known woodwork that the locals use for fishing, or visit the Jew Town and the synagogue.
When I arrived, it was already 11.30 at night. The first thing I said after having passed through the most beautiful entrance door I have ever seen in a hotel, was wow! The place was fabulous, with a neo-baroque design that steals the show! There was also a white fountain, with turquoise waters and rose petals and a wonderful mural Trompe-l’œil, created by two excellent British artists, which makes you fell like it’s got a life of its own. Having given my passport to the polite employees at the reception, after two minutes I entered my lovely room. My bags came after a while.
My room belonged to the standard category, and it was actually a lot bigger than I had imagined, with two twin beds, a living room and a study room. There was an extra door which, as I was informed, connected my room to the one next door. This fact together with the playground that is being constructed, make this particular hotel ideal for families!
There was a kettle and a wide variety of tee, as well as free bottles of water. The only thing that they would charge you for was the mini – bar. At the end of my stay I would have to pay for anything I had consumed.
The bathroom was also big, with a glass partition for the shower. The wonderful stylish tiles on the wall and the doll-likelamps are really adorable. Of course, you are provided with anything you need, like shampoo, soap, a shower cap, a comb, a shaving kit and a toothbrush. There was even a bath sponge, something that I hadn’t come across in any other hotel in Kerala!
At Fragrant Nature Kochi, there are 41 rooms in total, the 35 of which are standard and are called Duke Chamber. The Ocean Blue Suites compose the next category, with bigger rooms and a separate living room, while there is also a presidential suite, the Royal Dutch Suite.
There is nothing this hotel doesn’t have! Here, one can find the biggest spa and the largest swimming pool in town, and this is just the beginning. Gym, conference room, restaurant, cafeteria, library, playground and the most breathtaking view in Kochi, all these and even more can be found here.
I spent the morning after my arrival in the cool waters of the huge pool, listening to the sounds coming from the bustling city. In the evening, I went to the rooftop to witness the sunset from above. The weather had other plans of course, since it started raining that day, so I missed the best part of the day. But the view from the top was really unforgettable!
The dining experience
I was lucky enough to taste all three dishes of the day, as well as the mouthwatering desserts of the chef during my stay at Fragrant Nature Kochi. The menu was a la carte as there weren’t many guests at the hotel during that period. Usually though, there is a buffet for breakfast and lunch. The menu surprised me pleasantly, since I noticed that there was a choice between local and international cuisine. As I steer away from spicy food, the menu proved to be a life saviour!
For breakfast, I chose a combination of freshly cut fruits, scrambled eggs and a toast, while in the meantime I enjoyed a freshly squeezed pineapple juice. At noon, I ate the chef’s famous pasta with spinach crème, while for lunch I let the chef create a dish especially for me (non spicy please!). And because this hotel has the warmest and most friendly staff, the chef offered me not just one but too delicious desserts. I can still taste the fragrant carrot halwa. Yum!
The only thing I would change is the huge portions, as I was never able to empty my dish. On the other hand though, maybe it’s just me! Other people might find these portions ideal.
- Those looking for a five star accommodation close to Fort Kochi and to the most prominent sights in the city.
- For neo-baroquestyle enthusiasts who are obsessed with colorful floors and carved doors (like I am!)
- For groups that are divided between local and international cuisine, since here you can taste both options.
- For people who want to enjoy some days of bliss, diving in the pool and getting a massage in the city’s biggest spa.
